BGC Club Day Summer BBQ!
On Friday, June 6, BGC Saskatoon celebrates BGC Club Day – a national awareness day that not only celebrates the 125th anniversary of BGC Canada but also highlights the opportunities BGC Clubs across Canada create for 150,000 young people and their families each year. Of those 150,000, over 5300 children and youth are served annually at BGC Saskatoon. We currently provide services to the communities of Saskatoon, Whitecap Dakota First Nation, Pike Lake, Beaver Creek, Langham, Warman, and Dalmeny.
Formerly known as Boys & Girls Clubs of Saskatoon, BGC Saskatoon provides safe spaces for children and youth. We help feed kids and their families. Our programs help young people realize positive outcomes in self-expression, academics, healthy living, physical activity, job readiness, mental health, and more. We believe that opportunity changes everything and see this happening in our Club every day.
In celebration of BGC Canada’s 125th anniversary, we reflect on the impact our Club has had on our community and how the national network has transformed the lives of young people. BGC Saskatoon surveyed children and youth at our Club about how their time with our Club has impacted them:
- Because of a Club, 95% of our kids are more active.
- Because of a Club, 93% of our kids are more excited to try new things.
- Because of a Club, 93% of our kids are more confident.
- Because of a Club, 94% of our kids make better choices.
BGC Saskatoon’s impact on young people stays with them throughout their lives. Former Club kids, volunteers, and staff members often share stories of their cherished Club memories and tell us about the Club’s unbelievable impact on their lives.
