BGC Saskatoon Expands Operations to Regina with 180 New Licensed Childcare Spaces

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Regina, SK — July 23, 2025 — BGC Saskatoon (formerly known as Boys & Girls Clubs of Saskatoon) is expanding their program offerings to the City of Regina this fall.  BGC Regina, operated by BGC Saskatoon, is thrilled to officially to announce they are beginning renovations at 1940 McIntyre Street this summer, and are anticipating the creation of 180 new licensed childcare spaces for children ages 0–6 in the downtown area.

“We’re incredibly excited to expand into Regina and become part of this vibrant community. It’s a true privilege to support children and families through our early learning centres, and we’re deeply grateful to every parent and guardian who places their trust in us,” said Jayme Melnyk, Director of Early Years Programs with BGC Saskatoon. She continued, “We are committed to providing a safe and supportive space where children can explore, grow, and build the skills they need for life. Our play-based philosophy empowers children to learn at their own pace, fostering creativity, confidence, and a love for lifelong learning.”

With the new centres anticipated to open in mid to late fall 2025, families in Regina will soon benefit from a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment rooted in BGC Saskatoon’s existing commitments to child development and community support.  Waiting lists will be available on the BGC Saskatoon website on July 15th, 2025.

Meeting a Critical Need

Saskatchewan continues to experience an increasing demand for licensed childcare spaces, particularly in urban centres like Regina. Many families remain on waitlists, highlighting the urgent need for expanded early learning infrastructure. BGC Regina’s new facilities will help alleviate this pressure, offering families a trusted option for early childhood education and care. Funding for these new spaces is provided through the Canada-Saskatchewan Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement, contributing an investment of nearly $1.1 billion over five years for childcare in Saskatchewan.

“We look forward to the BGC Saskatoon expansion into Regina as these new spaces will increase capacity and continue to strengthen our communities,” Government of Saskatchewan, Education Minister Everett Hindley said. “We remain committed to supporting families and organizations to ensure families have access to a safe, high-quality and nurturing child care environment where growth, learning and a child’s well-being are always at the forefront”
