New CEO Announcement!

Today, the Board of Directors of BGC Saskatoon (formerly Boys and Girls Club of Saskatoon) announces that Heidi Carl will become the new CEO of the organization effective April 15, 2024. After an extensive search across Canada, Carl was promoted from within the organization to the CEO position. The Board thanks outgoing CEO, Wanda Desjardins, for her forty years of dedicated service to the organization.

“During her 25 years with BGC Saskatoon, Heidi has served the organization in a variety of roles, participated in strategic planning and helped guide the organization through the tumultuous COVID-19 pandemic,” said Neil McPhee, Chair, BGC Saskatoon Board of Directors. “She has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our organization and we are proud of what she has accomplished. Under Heidi’s leadership we know that BGC Saskatoon will continue expanding and serving the needs of our children and youth.”
Recently, under Heidi’s leadership, the Rosewater Connection was initiated. Rosewater is a BGC Saskatoon mental health initiative that Heidi created when she saw children, youth, parents and staff struggling with their mental health. Together with community partners, she created a program to help individuals and families access mental health supports in a timely way to ensure physical and mental wellbeing.

“I am excited to continue to grow our organization in a way that creates positive impacts in the community, for our children, youth, and families,” said Heidi. “I am incredibly proud of the impact BGC Saskatoon has had on the quality of life of children, youth, families, and the communities we live in, here in Saskatoon & Area and I am honoured and privileged to continue that work as CEO of BGC Saskatoon.”

BGC Saskatoon has been providing opportunities for children and youth in Saskatoon & Area since 1974. In 2023, BGC Saskatoon served 4438 unique children and youth in 53 different programs. BGC programs are safe, supportive places for children and youth to be. By providing a place where they feel welcomed and supported, BGC helps them build positive relationships and develop a sense of belonging. This has a significant impact on their self-esteem and overall well-being. Whether they participate in Before and After School Programs, attend an Early Learning Centre, drop into a Mini Club or Neighbourhood Club or attend a summer camp, BGC is a safe place to hang out and develop confidence and skills for life!
